The Academic Career Visualizer is a tool that allows one to literally ‘see’ a career in abstract form. In the graph above, the white boxes shows the shape of a fictitious persona’s career, whereas the red line shows the persona’s publication production. The graph’s advantage is that although it provides fewer details than a CV or a portfolio, it is much easier to see historical development. It could serve in research into academic careers, but also have (self-) evaluation purposes (see also the ACUMEN project which lead me to this idea) or be applied in human-resources management.
This is a start to me. I hope to further develop the tool. It is mostly a lack of time or funding than a lack of ideas.
